About Herbaly

Herbaly Wellness is best known as a wellness tea brand, but what they offer encompasses much more than that!

The world of teas has exploded in recent years to include endless ingredient formulations designed for every type of tea drinker imaginable.

Most people simply drink tea for pleasure or a small caffeine hit, but an increasing number of customers are now looking into tea as a method of introducing health-boosting herbs to their routine.

What Herbaly Does: Functional Teas and More

Teas that are formulated with specific wellness benefits in mind are what’s known as “functional teas”. Popular varieties tend to target weight-loss, stress reduction, immune boosting, sleep enhancement, digestion aid, cognitive support, and more.

The market for functional teas has already been estimated to be worth a whopping 7.2 billion dollars as of 2022, but reports state that this is expected to continue growing rapidly in the next few years (1).

Herbaly is riding this wellness wave by creating quality products for customers in the market for functional teas.

What Herbaly does especially well to help it stand out from its sea of competitors is the quality of their ingredients, the breadth of their product lines, and the comprehensiveness of their formulations.

Herbaly serves buyers that tend towards organic and natural purchases by creating products predominantly out of herbal ingredients.

The span of the functional tea market covers everything from fully natural high-quality products to cheaply produced conventional teas that contain a small amount of trendy superfood ingredients for marketing purposes.

The cost of Herbaly products reflect its superior quality but are more than worth the price difference of cheaper alternatives for many buyers. When it comes down to effectiveness per dollar spent, Herbaly has strong value.

While Herbaly is best known as a tea business, they’ve branched out to serve other related areas of the wellness niche as well. They also have supplement capsules, liquid extracts, topicals and aromatherapeutic products.

Many of their products serve similar purposes to the teas but in an alternative form of delivery. This makes Herbaly very convenient and adaptable for any lifestyle. If tea-drinking isn’t your thing, chances are you’ll find their supplements or liquid extract products far easier to use.

Overview of Herbaly

The company of Herbaly itself doesn’t share much information beyond their products pages. They don’t have a mission statement, a founder story, company value statements, or even much information about their ingredient sourcing.

What we can determine is that the company was founded in 2018 in Canada by Daniel Sarramalho and is currently directed by Micheal Klein.

Its headquarters are in Montreal, Canada, though their website specifies that their products are made in the USA.

Herbaly Company Values

Despite the lack of information about the company itself, we can infer a few things from their products.

Ingredient Quality

They clearly opt for natural, organic, whole-food and non-GMO ingredients in their formulations. It’s fair to assume that they’re concerned with pesticide use, and that they avoid using artificial or highly processed ingredients.

A Blend of Traditional and Modern Wellness

Another noteworthy aspect of their products is their heavy use of plants with medicinal properties. It seems that they draw on a combination of herbal medicine and modern western medicine to create formulations with traditional knowledge and science-backed effectiveness.

Many of the plants Herbaly includes in their products have been used medicinally by humans for hundreds if not thousands of years. For some shoppers, this is evidence enough of their efficacy, but still others prefer to have the assurance of controlled clinical studies.

Luckily, modern science is slowly starting to catch up to traditional medicine as more and more studies are beginning to show proof of the healing powers of many natural substances. This is a win for Herbaly.

Environmental Concern

Another value that comes across implicitly from Herbaly’s website is their care for the environment. Most of their products are made and packaged with environmentally responsible materials.

For example, their capsules come in glass bottles and their tea bags are made of fully compostable plant matter. They also offer significant discounts for bulk ordering which reduces both shipping expenses and additional packaging.

The final telltale sign of Herbaly’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices is their partnership with Pachama. Pachama is an organization that supports reforestation and ecosystem protection efforts in several endangered areas. Because of this partnership, Herbaly claims to be completely carbon neutral.

Herbaly Products Review

Herbaly has six different categories of products which are further divided according to benefit.

They have 5 different functional teas, 8 different capsule supplements, 5 liquid extracts, 1 sweetener product, 3 topical skincare products, and 1 aromatherapy product for a total of 23 products available from their website.

The benefits Herbaly’s products are designed to address are: general wellness, heart health, glucose regulation, mood, detox, and dermatological improvement. Each of these benefit categories have several products dedicated to it which are also sold in bundles at a discounted price.

We’ll examine the products in groups below according to benefit.

Herbaly Wellness Collection Review

The general wellness products category features some of Herbaly’s most popular items. It has a functional tea in two sizes, Irish moss capsules, mushroom capsules, and wild-crafted oregano oil capsules.

Teas

The wellness tea is their single best selling product which boasts over 4000 reviews with a 4.6/5.0 star rating. This is impressive already, but upon delving into the tea itself it becomes clear why this is the case.

The tea only has nine simple ingredients in addition to an undisclosed proprietary blend. These ingredients are sencha leaf, ginger root, fennel seed, dandelion root, tulsi leaf, turmeric root, lavender petals, stevia, and natural flavor. All of these ingredients are organic, GMO free, and vegan.

While the information of this tea’s benefits on Herbaly’s website is lacking, the wellness boosting properties of the ingredients are still clearly impressive.

Sencha leaf is a type of green tea with a high amount of polyphenols which can help to reduce damage from free radicals (2).

This helps prevent cardiovascular disease, signs of aging and more. It also can improve digestion and help with weight management (3). Since sencha leaf is a green tea, it does contain a small amount of caffeine and is better consumed earlier in the day.

The other ingredients include ginger which aids in digestion, fennel seed which helps regulate blood pressure, dandelion root for detox assistance and heart health, tulsi leaf for immune support, turmeric for its anti-inflammatory effects, and stevia which provides a sweet flavor without the addition of sugar (4).

Based on how broad these health benefits are, it’s clear why this tea is under the general wellness label!

The second tea product is the exact same, but comes in a larger size to allow for brewing a pitcher sized amount. Both teas can be served either hot, or iced.

Capsules

The wellness capsules are much more simple in their formulations than the tea. The first product only contains organic Irish moss and brown rice, the second contains 15 different kinds of mushrooms, and the third supplement is solely oil of oregano.

Irish moss is high in many vitamins and minerals and is known to help support healthy digestion, optimal thyroid function, immune support and more (5). Brown rice is a great source of dietary fiber which is necessary for heart health and detoxification pathways, and it’s also a good source of magnesium (6).

The types of mushrooms in the mushroom capsule include maitake, reishi, turkey tail, chaga, cordyceps, shiitake, lion’s mane and more.

They all have slightly different benefits, but generally speaking, many mushrooms are excellent for cognitive support and their adaptogenic benefits (7). This means they help the body cope with stress and lower inflammation.

Finally, oregano oil is touted as antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal, all of which have the potential to help with gut health by fighting off microbes that cause digestive issues (8).

All of these wellness products can be taken together daily and are even sold together in a wellness health kit.

Herbaly Heart Collection Review

The heart health collection includes a functional tea, a capsule supplement, and a liquid extract. The collection is advertised as a holistic solution to manage high blood pressure.

Tea

The functional heart health tea contains 10 simple organic and natural ingredients: hawthorn berry, hibiscus flower, lavender flower, fennel seed, chamomile flower, ginger root, fennel seed, cinnamon bark, carob seed pod, and cardamon seed in addition to their undisclosed proprietary blend.

Hawthorn berry has been shown to help increase artery blood flow, reduce plaque formations, and lower blood pressure (9). Hibiscus is another powerful ingredient that can help increase blood vessel dilation and vascular function (10). Chamomile tea is also rich in flavonoids which can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and cinnamon bark is effective at reducing triglyceride and total serum cholesterol levels.

These effects in combination with the rest of the ingredients create a powerful product with over 400 positive reviews (rating of 4.4/5.0 stars). Many reviews state customers saw noticeably reduced blood pressure readings and cite how helpful the tea has been in their journey of improving heart health.

Capsules

The capsules for heart health are called Turmeric Complete Plus CoQ10 capsules. The ingredients are: folate, vitamin B12, hawthorn extract, CoQ10, beet juice, turmeric extract, red root, and black pepper extract. These ingredients are rich in vitamins and minerals essential for good heart health and can contribute to better blood flow and reduced blood pressure.

Liquid Extract

Herbaly’s heart health liquid extract is a potent and convenient way to add a dose of wellness to your smoothies, juices or even water. It contains hawthorn berry, red root, dandelion root, burdock root, ginger root, and lobelia herb. This extract contains many similar ingredients to the other heart products, but an important addition is burdock root. Burdock root is rich in vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium which are all helpful for reducing blood pressure. It’s also been shown to wide blood vessels to improve circulation. (11)

Up to 30 drops of the liquid extract can be taken 1-3 times a day. It might be wise to avoid exceeding this limit since certain ingredients like lobelia can be dangerous in high doses.

Herbaly Glucose Collection

The glucose collection was designed to help stabilize blood glucose levels and keep them low enough to avoid harmful health effects. It has a function tea, a capsule product, a sweetener, and a liquid extract.

Tea

The glucose tea contains gymnema leaf, milk thistle, fenugreek seed, dandelion root, ginger root, tulsi leaf, fennel seed, cinnamon bark, bitter melon, Asian ginseng root, grapefruit, natural flavor, and a proprietary blend. This comprehensive list features several powerful herbs that can help reduce insulin resistance, and therefore reduce blood glucose spikes (12).

Capsules

The glucose capsules have a shorter ingredient list than the tea. There’s a fair bit of overlap, but the extract also contains chromium, and nopal opuntia cactus. These have both been used to help combat diabetes symptoms and increase insulin sensitivity with good results.

Sweetener

The sweetener product is simply stevia extract, vegetable glycerin, and water. This is thought to be a great alternative for sweetening desserts, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee and more without spiking blood sugar since it’s completely sugar free.

Liquid Extract

The glucose liquid extract is a nutrient dense green tea extract sweetened with stevia. It contains antioxidants and EGEC which is a substance from tea that is thought to help with weight loss.

Overall, the reviews for the glucose tea far exceed any of the other glucose products and seem to have the most comprehensive ingredient list. All of these products can be taken together and are sold together in a glucose bundle.

Herbaly Mood Collection Review

The mood collection is the first collection that doesn’t have a tea product. It has capsules, two aromatherapy products, and a liquid extract.

Capsules

The capsules contain reishi, lion’s mane, turkey tail, and ashwagandha mushrooms as well as holy basil, and lemon balm. These work synergistically to ease tension and improve cognitive function.

Aromatherapy

The aromatherapy products feature an essential oil blend with lavender, basil and rosemary which can be mixed with a carrier oil and applied to the skin for a calming effect, as well as a roller with lavender and chamomile that is ready to be applied directly to the skin as a headache reliever.

Liquid Extract

Last but not least is the mood liquid extract with kava root, passion flower herb, st. John’s wort, lobelia, and pulsatilla. This blend of herbs is supposed to cause feelings of relaxation and can be added to any hot or cold beverage up to 3 times per day (13).

Herbaly Detox Collection Review

The detox collection has 3 products: a tea, capsules, and a liquid extract. Unlike the other benefit categories, they all seem to have fairly different effects.

Tea

The “skinny” tea is designed to fight sugar cravings, support digestion and provide a natural source of energy. Its primary ingredient is yerba mate, but it contains 8 other organic herbs that help to cleanse you from the inside out.

Capsules

The detox capsules are advertised as a liver restoration solution. They contain Oregon grape root, milk thistle, yellow dock root, dandelion root, burdock root, and red root. Unlike the tea, they are mainly focused on improving liver health since it’s the most important organ involved in natural detox processes.

Liquid Extract

The final detox product features several herbs that help remove intestinal parasites. It has quassia wood, black walnut hulls, garrya herb, clove bud and bayberry root. These herbs can help kill and detox from parasites which otherwise cause digestive issues (14).

Herbaly Derma Collection Review

The derma collection encompasses products that support skin, hair, and nail health. It has capsules that support all of the above as well as 2 topical products and one edible liquid extract.

Capsules

The capsule blend contains biotin, hyaluronic acid, silica and several herbs known to help with hair growth, skin elasticity, skin hydration, and nail strength.

Liquid Extract

The liquid extract is another all-purpose beauty product which can be consumed daily for improved skin, hair and nails. It contains sencha leaf extract and a blend of other highly nutrient dense herbs.

Topicals

The first topical under the derma category is a rosemary, peppermint and tea tree oil based scalp serum to increase hair growth. The second topical is a skin serum with vitamin c, vitamin e, squalene and several oils formulated to improve skin texture and complexion.
